Snowville Variscite ('Variquoise')

Snowville variscite is a high-grade material from Box Elder County, Utah. Its natural colors range from apple green and bright mint to blue-green, often crossed by a dramatic black spiderweb matrix. The contrast between the vivid color and dark webbing gives every cut its own pattern and personality.
The material earned the trade nickname “Variquoise” because its aqua-leaning colors and tight matrix can resemble fine turquoise. Mineralogically, however, it is variscite: a copper-free aluminum phosphate whose green color is associated with trace chromium and vanadium. Its density allows well-chosen material to take a rich, waxy polish without artificial color enhancement.
The original deposit is no longer producing, so the Snowville material available today comes from finite legacy holdings. That rarity, together with its natural color, distinctive matrix and known Utah origin, makes authentic Snowville variscite especially desirable to collectors, jewelers and anyone drawn to stones that cannot simply be replaced.
